General

Our school is a co-educational primary school catering for 400 pupils from 3-11 years of age in the Stoke Newington area of the London Borough of Hackney. (Website) We are proud of the school’s role as an integral part of a multicultural and socially mixed community.

Housed in a one-storey building, which was rebuilt after the Second World War, Benthal Primary School has fifteen general teaching rooms, two libraries, IT and music rooms, and 2 halls.  The site includes two large playgrounds, a separate large outdoor nursery space and several quieter areas.

All admissions applications need to be made to the school.

If parents wish to visit the school before applying, please contact the school office to arrange an appointment.

School Day

Children can be left in the playground from 8:45am. School starts at 9:00am and the teachers mark the registers at 9:05am. School ends at 3:30pm and parents collect their children from the playground. Parents can contact their child’s teacher in the playground at 9.00 am and 3:30pm.

Lunch is from 12:00pm - 1:30pm to accommodate all the children. School meals are cooked on the premises by Caterlink Ltd. A choice of meals is provided. Children may bring a packed lunch if they wish.

There is no school uniform at the school, but children come to school in clothes which are suitable to work in. All children bring a change of clothes for P.E., including shorts, T shirt and trainers.

Attendance and Punctuality

It is important for our children to attend school regularly so that they can make progress in their learning. We ask parents to ensure that their children arrive on time for school.

Parents and School

The school positively encourages the partnership between home and school. Parents are most welcome in school and the Headteacher is pleased to see those with queries or problems. Teachers are also willing to see parents, either at the end of the school day or by special arrangement. Open evenings, to discuss children’s progress, are held three times a year.

Complaints Procedure

Any concerns that parents and others express about the school curriculum and related matters will, as far as possible, be dealt with on an informal basis by teachers and the Headteacher. Only when concerns cannot be resolved informally will the formal complaints procedure come into operation. If attempts to settle the complaint informally fail, the complainant should send a letter to the Clerk of the Governing Body at the Education Department. When the Governing Body has considered the complaint the Clerk will then notify the complainant of the outcome and any action taken.
